Staff insight – Diversity and equality at RFIB Africa
With many organisations feeling the spotlight turned on their equality measures, Neesha Parbhoo, Director of RFIB Africa, says RFIB has much to recommend as a diverse and empowering workplace.
An entrepreneur with a keen eye for market opportunities, Neesha Parbhoo has been working in the short-tail insurance industry for over 12 years, holding senior executive positions in multi-national companies as well as co-founding two broking operations.
Now Director of RFIB Africa, not only has Neesha been responsible for bringing international Lloyd’s broker investment into South Africa, she is also a champion of diversity and equality within the firm.
Collaboration and support
To that end, she is part of a management team working to position RFIB Africa as the employer of choice by providing all staff with the opportunity to learn and develop their skills in a supportive and collaborative environment.
“At RFIB we are passionate about creating diversity of thought, and glass ceilings simply do not exist here”, she says, highlighting a common commitment across RFIB Africa’s management team to translate this diversity and inclusion into a business that mirrors the unique environment of the South African workplace.
RFIB is also a proponent of the empowerment of women in the workplace, evidenced by the exceptional women such as Neesha in leadership roles within the business.
And while this year’s International Women’s Day encouraged organisations to focus on what they are doing to support, encourage and progress women, Neesha’s take on #balanceforbetter goes further than that, encompassing equality based upon credentials and irrespective of gender, race or creed.
“To me it means aligning the requirements and responsibilities of a role to the attributes and capabilities of the individual, free of any form of discrimination”, she says. “RFIB is an organisation that embraces inclusivity and diversity in a manner that resonates with my values, beliefs and principles. I truly believe that my ambitions here, whatever they may be, will be met with support and without bias.”
